    Philadelphia Museum of Art
    Custom typeface, wordmark suite, and badge lettering for the core of Philadelphia Art Museum’s typographic palette. Fairmount Serif originated from a deep dive into Philadelphia typographic history. In a search for type references that balanced the industrial quality of American sans-serifs in the 1930s with a classical sensibility, Hess Neobold came to the forefront. Its designer, Sol Hess, had attended PMSIA—the school that eventually evolved into the museum itself—and later succeeded Frederic Goudy as art director of Lanston Monotype, based nearby in Philadelphia. We incorporated formal cues from contemporaneous typefaces and created a type family that reflects both Philadelphia’s character and the classical spirit of the museum’s architecture and collection.

	Identity system and custom type for Kisa Shiga’s independent anti-waste fashion label Strawberry Western. The identity is bilingual, drawn for both English and Japanese readers. A range of optical sizes of the wordmark were created to solve for everything from large displays to small leather pressings.
The custom type palette covers a range of expression, all based on circular geometries.

    Rhode Island School of Design
    Custom type system and seal refinement for Rhode Island School of Design. The new RISD type system consists of two parts: RISD Serif, a headline typeface which ranges from complete to incomplete, and the utilitarian RISD Sans, which serves as the system’s straightforward, neutral backbone. In addition to creating the type system, I redrew the RISD seal in an effort to simplify features, optimize for small sizes, and bring to life some of the hand-crafted quality of John Howard Benson’s original sketches.

        Getaway is an alcohol-free bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We built an identity system that presents Getaway as a laid-back escape from routine. The custom-drawn logo functions as a variable font, adding a level of interactivity to the website. The headline typeface is also variable, with a “relaxation” axis.Getaway is an R&#38;amp;M project.
